Heather lives in Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast. She started her career as a primary teacher, teaching for 15 years in Christchurch, Invercargill and Lower Hutt. She taught New Entrants through to Year 8 and specialised in music.
About Heather
She had a four year stint working as an Educator for Life Education Trust in the Hutt Valley, so got to hang out with their cute giraffe mascot Harold (and gained some good puppet skills!). She also developed solid experience in communicating and working alongside lots of schools.
From that role, Heather segued into public health and health promotion at Regional Public Health, running health promotion programmes in education settings. She also worked for the Ministry of Health, Te Hiringa Hauora (the Health Promotion Agency) and in National Office of the NZ Cancer Society – overseeing the SunSmart schools programme.
In 2018, tired of the commute into Wellington, Heather started her business Time Genie (check out the “Find Out More About” button) which she does from home. She works with educational and creative business owners, doing tasks for them that they don’t have time to do – so that they can spend more time in their zone of genius, doing what they do best. Heather also has an editing qualification and she is an experienced proof reader.
Heather supports Field Based STEM by liaising with schools and gathering feedback from teachers. She is the one who maintains contact with school Principals/Senior Managers during the course of the PLD.
This feedback is used to continually improve the service that STEM provides. We want to know the good stuff that is going on and to share positive experiences so that other facilitators and schools can benefit. We also want to know if things are not going so well so that we can step in and fix issues before they become problematic.
If you have any feedback about Field-basedSTEM that you would like to share, please contact Heather at: [email protected]
