AI can name a fingerprint pattern in general terms. It has never seen this particular print, on this particular finger, in this particular classroom. The gap between the two is where the verification happens.
The protocol already asks whether AI's answer matched what students actually saw. The Verification Slip turns that check into a recorded artefact.
Years 1–6
Spoken, not written. The teacher asks the AI's claim aloud and records the student's one-sentence check against their own print.
Years 7–10
Students write the full slip themselves: the claim, the check against the magnified print, and the named limit, before moving to the forensic science questions.
Years 11–13
Students extend the slip across a partial or ambiguous print, and connect their limit statement to why partial prints are genuinely difficult for forensic identification, not just for AI.
Decision checkpoint
No claim about a pattern is recorded as confirmed until the slip's check-and-limit step is complete.
Teacher judgement note
Fingerprints are biometric data. Photographs should stay within the lesson and not be stored, shared, or uploaded beyond the classroom activity itself.
